PHSA Point Classes And Divisions



General Rules:

All Hunter divisions consist of 3 over fences classes and 1 flat class. All hunter classes are judged on manners, performance, way of going and soundness. Age cutoffs are as of December 1 of the current show year. Ponies must have USAE measurement cards.

PHSA points not to count until membership is paid.

Divisions:

Green Pony Hunter

Open to junior riders on ponies of any age who have not been shown over fences at the regulation height (2'3" for small; 2'6" for medium; 2'9" for large) in a recognized division at a PHSA or USAE show prior to December 1 of current show year. Fences at 2'3" for small; 2'6" for medium and 2.9" for large.

Small Pony Hunter

Open to junior riders who are less than 12 years old as of December 1 of current show year who are riding small ponies (not to exceed 12'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Pre-Children's Hunter Pony or Children's Hunter Pony. Fences at 2'3".

Medium Pony Hunter

Open to junior riders who are less than 14 years old as of December 1 of current show year who are riding medium ponies (not to exceed 13'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Pre-Children's Hunter Pony or Children's Hunter Pony. Fences at 2'6".

Large Pony Hunter

Open to junior riders on large ponies (not to exceed 14'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Pre-Children's Hunter Pony or Children's Hunter Pony. Fences at 3'.

Small Junior Hunter

Open to junior riders on horses 16' and smaller. Riders may not cross enter into Children's Hunter Horse or Pre-Children's Hunter Horse. Fences at 3'6".

Large Junior Hunter

Open to junior riders on horses over 16'. Riders may not cross enter into Children's Hunter Horse or Pre-Children's Hunter Horse. Fences at 3'6".

Amateur Owner Hunter

Open to adult amateurs of any age. Riders may not cross enter into Pre-Adult or Adult Amateur divisions. Fences at 3'6".

Green Hunter

Open to amatuers and professional riders on horses of any age who are in their first or second year of showing in a recognized division. Fences at 3'6".

Small/Medium Pre-children's Hunter Pony

Open to junior riders on small or medium ponies (not to exceed 13'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Small/Medium Children's Hunter or into Small/Medium Pony Hunter. Fences at 2'.

Large Pre-Children's Hunter Pony

Open to junior riders on large ponies (not to exceed 14'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Large Children's Pony Hunter or into Large Pony Hunter. Fences at 2'.

Pre-Children's Hunter Horse (14 and Under)

Open to riders who are not older than 14 years as of December 1 of the current show year. Riders may not cross enter into Children's Hunter Horse. Fences at 2'6".

Pre-Children's Hunter Horse (15-17)

Open to riders who are at least 15 years old and not older than 17 years old as of December 1 of the current show year. Riders may not cross enter into Children's Hunter Horse. Fences at 2'6".

Small/Medium Children's Hunter Pony

Open to junior riders on small or medium ponies (not to exceed 13'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Pre-Children's Hunter Pony or Small or Medium Pony Hunter. Fences at 2'3".

Large Children's Hunter Pony Open to junior riders on large ponies (not to exceed 14'2"). Riders may not cross enter into Pre-Children's Hunter Pony or Large Pony Hunter. Fences at 2'6".

Children's Hunter Horse (14 and Under)

Open to horses ridden by juniors who are not greater than 14 years old as of December 1 of the current show year. Fences at 3'.

Children's Hunter Horse (15-17)

Open to horses ridden by juniors whose are at least 15 years old and not older than 17 years old as of December 1 of the current show year. Fences at 3'.

Pre-Adult Hunter

Open to adult amateur riders on either ponies or horses. Fences at 2'6". Riders may not cross enter into Adult Amateur, Modified Hunter or Amateur Owner Hunter.

Adult Amateur Hunter (18-35)

Open to adult amateur riders who are not older than 35 years as of December 1 of the current show year. May not cross enter into Amateur Owner. May cross enter into Green Hunter. Fences at 3'.

Adult Amateur Hunter (Over 35)

Open to adult amateur riders who are more than 35 years old as of December 1 of the current show year. May not cross enter into Amateur Owner. May cross enter into Green Hunter. Fences at 3'.

Low Hunter

Open to junior and adult amateur riders of any age on either horses or ponies. May cross enter into any other divisions. Fences at 2'6" - 2'9".

Pre-Green Hunter

Open to amateur and professional riders on horses of any age who have not shown over fences 3' in height at a recognized show prior to December 1st of the preceding year. Pre-green horses may show one year. Fences at 2'6-3'.

Modified Hunter

Open to all Adult and/or Junior amateur riders on horses and ponies. Riders may only cross enter into beginner rider or pleasure divisions. Ponies to jump 2'; Horses to jump 2'3". Division may be split if entries warrant.

Short Stirrup Equitation

Open to junior riders who are less than 10 years of age as of December 1 of the current show year. Open to horses and ponies. Judged on hands, seat, general appearance, and control of mount. Four classes: WT; WTC; 2 OF (4 cross rails only). May cross enter only into Short Stirrup Hunter.

Short Stirrup Hunter

Open to junior riders who are less than 10 years of age as of December 1 of the current show year. Open to horses and ponies. This division consists of one WTC class and 3 OF (minimum of 6 jumps each class). Fences at 2'. May cross enter only into Short Stirrup Equitation.
