$ 51,846.94 money market account balance

Discussion on appropriate charitable uses for a portion of these funds; and what percentage of money should be used for charitable support. Two suggestions were: funding the rebuilding of a barn at The Devon Horse Show and undertaking an annual grant award to a worthy recipient organization. Board members were asked to come to the next meeting with any other suggestions so that we can vote on this issue. Audrey will email board members the Devon information and some sample grant language. Barbara will bring a few years of historical financial data to the next meeting, so the amounts of available funds for charitable purposes can be discussed.

Zone 2 Finals Breakfast

John has been in touch with Thom Brede. PHSA will have an ad in the program & a banner in the breakfast area. John will arrange for the highest quality food available through the facility vendor.

Annual Meeting

Liz was unable to attend the Board meeting & she is running the Annual Meeting. It will be held on 01/20/07 from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM directly prior to the beginning of the banquet cocktail hour/silent auction.

Awards Banquet

Audrey will send trophy return letters now & remind the trophy recipients to send back PHSA trophies only not EPPHA ones. Champion & Reserve photos will be needed for performance & breeding. Doris is gathering the breeding photos, Audrey will work on the performance winners. Sue asked the board to get more restaurant gift certificates for the silent auction.

There are currently no recipients for three awards: Horse Show of the Year, PHBA Trophy & the Ray Gambone Trophy. No Board members were aware of the horse show of the year committee having met. Discussion on whether to keep the Horse Show of the Year award active & the Board voted to keep the award; but, cautioned the committee to only award it when there is a worthy recipient under the criteria. Liz was previously asked to chair the committee & Corey was asked to co-chair with Liz at this meeting. Liz and Corey will communicate with the rest of the committee and report back to the board. The criteria for the Horse Show of the Year will be printed in the Winners Booklet at the banquet.

The Board discussed and chose a recipient for the PHBA Trophy.

There is currently no recipient for the Ray Gambone Trophy. Sue will list the opportunity and criteria on the website & Audrey will ask Diane Boram for suggestions for a worthy parent.

It was decided that the prize money for high score awards will be $100 for champions & $50 for reserve champions.

USHJA Affiliates Award Program

Audrey sent out an email on this award program. Criteria for choosing the PHSA nominees will be due September 15th & nominee names & biographies after that.

Correspondence

The Thoroughbred Retirement Fund wrote thanking PHSA for the donation in memory of Wissie Brede. Discussion on email from Barbara Kohr. Audrey will respond to her on behalf of the Board.

Breeding

The Leading Handler Award will be awarded down to 6th place this year. The recipients are CH-Sam Manno, RC- Ray Francis, 3rd-Jay Raach, 4th- Oliver Brown, 5th-Roy Evans and 6th-Billy Howland. Doris reported on the number of breeding members for 2006, the numbers are: Senior-90, Junior-2, Horses-69, Ponies-26 and 75 farms. Diane questioned exactly what the sponsorship perks were for PHSA being a sponsor at the Sallie Wheeler Breeding Championships. We received ad space in the program, but otherwise no Board members knew the answer. Audrey will call Jill Insko and ask this question.

Discussion on how the Breeding Committee’s PHSA rule changes, as reported in the last meeting minutes, interact with the recently published Zone 2 breeding rules. This question is remanded to the PHSA Breeding Committee.
